Harassment is regulated by the Criminal Code (Btk. 222§). It is important to stress that the Hungarian legislation considers online harassment in the same way as harassment as defined by the Criminal Code. Harassment is defined as cases where the perpetrator's aim is to intimidate the victim or to interfere arbitrarily in his or her private life or daily activities. In addition, the harassment must be regular (many times in a short period of time) or persistent (committed over a long period of time).

Extortion is regulated by the Criminal Code (Btk. 367§). The perpetrator uses violence or threats to get the victim to do something, not do something or tolerate something. The purpose of the offender is to obtain unlawful gain; in the absence of this, extortion cannot be established. In addition, it is important to stress that it is possible to contact the police even if the damage to property has not occurred, as in this case an attempt at extortion can be established.
